The Veronicas’ shock ‘split’ was revealed as a publicity stunt to promote the Vodka Cruiser liquor brand – and fans aren’t happy.

Band members Lisa and Jessica Origliasso, 37, let the cat out of the bag on Wednesday, just days after announcing their split teasing their upcoming solo projects.

‘PSA The Veronicas didn’t break up. We are powerful together, but we can be just as powerful alone,’ the twins wrote on Instagram.

Fans slammed the duo after Wednesday’s announcement, writing, “Absolute burgers to play with our hearts.”

Another added: “When marketing fails.”

“Another five minutes of self-promotion and attention-seeking,” someone else wrote.

Speaking to The Daily Telegraph, Jessica assured fans that the Veronicas are “absolutely still together”, contrary to their previous announcements.

“We continue at 100%. We can’t afford to split The Veronicas just yet. In fact, we have some new Veronicas music we’re working on that we’re very excited about,” she said.

In a controversial marketing tactic, the duo are launching Vodka Cruiser’s new “The Solo Project” campaign by releasing songs about “female empowerment and self-pleasure”.

‘Masturbation. Well, we said it, but we have to talk about it. That’s why we’re kind of breaking up. So with Vodka Cruiser, we’re going our separate ways and writing our own solo songs for the very first time, to get more women and women talking about going solo too,” the sisters said in a promotional video for the collaboration.

“What we keep saying is that we are powerful together, but we are also powerful alone, and the whole spirit of this campaign is that we want to encourage women to know that they are powerful and that they are able and have the right to indulge themselves without any permission from the world,” she added.

Unfortunately, tensions between the sisters led to the band going on a temporary hiatus when Jessica began dating actress Ruby Rose in 2017.

At the time, it was rumored that Lisa, who is married to actor Logan Huffman, didn’t approve of Jessica’s new relationship.

The couple did not speak for 18 months, sparking speculation that the group had split up for good.

They made amends in 2019, after Jessica and Ruby split.

“As twin sisters, we have a bond that really can’t be explained to anyone else,” Lisa told News Corp of her feud with Lisa.

“We feel it deep within ourselves, and even in difficult times… I guess somewhere we always knew it. But we went through a very difficult period where we did not communicate.
