UnKCorked Wine & Spirits, a liquor store with tasting bar and “beer cellar”, opens at CityPlace in Overland Park

Overland Park is home to a new “libation destination”.

This is what the owners of Wines & Spirits Outlets11140 Switzer Road, call their new liquor store, which owritten last month at ground level of Summit at CityPlace, a luxury apartment complex near College Boulevard and US Highway 69.

UnKCorked offers a wide range of wines and spirits and features a refrigerated, walk-in “beer cellar” stocked with beers and sodas, as well as a tasting bar.

Industry veterans behind a new store

Owners Eric Noblet and Ian Hulon have been in the restaurant and spirits industry for over 30 years. They met as colleagues at a distribution company LDF companies before opening UnKCorked.

Hulon said they saw a hole in the local market for a place that offered both education and good wine at an affordable price, and they wanted to fill it.

“We also didn’t want to build another place that looked like a lot of other stores,” Hulon said. “We wanted something unique that also pays a bit of homage to our restaurant roots.”

The store’s proximity to apartments and other residential properties also makes it convenient for customers, Noblet said, which comes in handy during events like last weekend’s AFC Championship game and this week’s snowstorm. .

“We have 350 units overhead and 350 units next to it that are all walkable,” Noblet said. “Our location here is ideal, which is one of the main focal points we have been working on over the past year. »

Noblet said some of the things that set UnKCorked apart from the typical liquor store are its atmosphere, its tasting bar, and the store’s lesser-known brands.

We’ve been lucky because people have definitely been open to venturing out and trying out some of these brands that they may have never heard of before,” Noblet said.

UnKCorked also plans to offer various feature offerings, such as wine clubs and a “cocktail of the moment” package that allows customers to try a new cocktail and purchase the ingredients to make it themselves.

“It’s a good way for people to boost their home collections,” Hulon said. “WWe want to make sure that people who are here every week or every two weeks have access to all of our best products.

UnKCorked is open 10 a.m. to 9 p.m. Monday through Thursday. Store hours on weekends are 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Sunday.
