The Yardbird at 1896 in McAlester is a surprisingly wonderful little place to eat in Oklahoma. They have amazing reviews on Google and Facebook and serve chicken that will impress any foodie, along with other great menu items. If you’re looking for delicious food and exceptional service with a hometown feel, take a day trip to McAlester and give it a try.
In these uncertain times, keep safety in mind and consider adding destinations to your bucket-to-visit list at a later date.
The Yardbird at 1896 is located at 315 East Choctaw Street in McAlester. They are open Tuesday through Friday for lunch and Thursday evening for dinner. Please note that they are closed from Saturday to Monday.
The interior has a rustic, simple vibe with black-and-white checkerboard floors and plenty of tables.
There is also a secluded area to the side which is perfect if you have a large group. Their online reviews mention the great service and we totally agree.
The place is well known for its chicken and home cooking. Everything we ordered was so fresh, served hot, and had fantastic flavors.
It’s one of McAlester’s best-kept secrets, so if you find yourself traveling, be sure to put this place on your restaurant list.
The Dirty Birdy Sandwich is their version of a Philly and comes highly recommended. One online reviewer said, “I went here to try the Dirty Bird Sandwich. Probably the best sandwich I’ve had in my life. The wings, meatloaf and cookies were great too.” Now I would say that’s a compelling review.
And, just look at this big, juicy burger. If you haven’t got your mouth watering yet, then we can’t be friends.
