Sarasota restaurant to reopen at South County hotel


A Sarasota restaurant that recently closed its old location announced it will reopen soon, now as part of a local hotel.

Chef Rolf New Florida Cuisine, owned by chef Rolf Zahnd, will move to Casey Key Resorts – Mainland in Osprey, formerly known as Bentley’s Boutique Hotel. Zahnd will operate a tiki bar, which is slated to open on November 3 for lunch and dinner, and a restaurant, which is slated to open on November 5 for breakfast, with plans for other indoor meals at the to come up.

The move will bring Zahnd back to work in South County. Prior to opening Chef Rolf’s New Florida Kitchen in 2018 on Siesta Drive, announcing its closure there in September, he spent more than 20 years at his family’s Saltwater Cafe, since closed, in Nokomis.

“In fact, I had always looked to go back to the area where I had the Saltwater Cafe before, because it was so familiar,” Zahnd said.

Casey Key Resorts - Mainland, formerly known as Bentley's Boutique Hotel, is located at 1660 S. Tamiami Trail in Osprey.

The initial breakfast menu will include house specials such as New York striptease and eggs or country fried steak with cookies and gravy, as well as eggs, French toast and pancakes. . Zahnd, who is Swiss, will also offer a Swiss brunch with rösti (a potato dish) topped with ham and cheese and served with eggs, Swiss bread, butter, jelly and ham and gruyere.

The planned lunch and dinner options include take-out options such as grouper and soft-shell crab sandwiches, as well as refined staples including steaks and fillets or seafood such as scallops and the tripletail. There will be casual seating as well as fine dining tables outside, with the breakfast restaurant offering both indoor and outdoor seating.

In addition to beer and wine, with local options, Chef Rolf’s New Florida Kitchen will also serve alcohol, including classic tropical drinks such as a rum runner. The tiki bar also plans to host live music.
