Restaurant owners and customers seek clarity on city night curfew | Pune News

PUNE: Many restaurant and bar owners demanded clarification on late-night travel restrictions on Friday, a day after the civic body allowed restaurants to be open until 1:30 a.m.
“Even though we keep our shutters open until the extended closing deadline, customers are worried about breaking the curfew as many are unsure if the nighttime restrictions are still in effect,” said a Baner bar owner.
Other restaurateurs are worried about the availability of transport for their staff amid the confusion. “Given that it takes about an hour to wrap up after the last call, and the transportation situation is not as frequent or convenient as it was before Covid, making it difficult for them to get home,” said said a restaurant-lounge owner from Parc Koregaon.
One customer, Manisha Jaisingh, said: “There is a lot of fake news about curfews and restrictions, which upon further investigation seems to be old news or news from another city.
“A lot of people see the police on their regular patrol rounds at night and assume it’s to enforce curfew. This is due to the effect that the intermittent curfew situation, the unforeseen emergence of new variants resulting in a sudden increase in cases, has had on the general public,” said Rohit Agarwal, another customer.
Pune Police said all movement restrictions in the city have been lifted. Pune Police Commissioner Amitabh Gupta said: “Although all curfews have been lifted, proper Covid protocols are still being implemented.”
Ganesh Shetty, President of the Pune Restaurant & Hoteliers Association, said: “All member restaurants are following safety protocols and enforcing PMC regulations.”
