Oranj Natural Wine Bar Shoreditch will host exciting residencies

An exciting natural wine bar will open in Shoreditch this month of November, before pressing one of the best pop-ups in the city to run its kitchen from December 1.

Oranj, which started life as an online natural wine subscription and delivery service in 2020, will open its bar and gallery space at 14 Bacon Street. From December 1, Decatur by Tom Zahir Browne – which has acquired an excellent reputation for its shrimp broths, blood sausage and a myriad of okra iterations – will occupy the kitchen for three weeks, with its exact offering still in development. It’s a natural progression for the subscription model, which has already invited the likes of Rita’s Dining, P.Franco and the clove club collaborate on monthly boxes.

When the chefs aren’t on the pans, there will be a small snack menu, mostly Iberian, strong in croquetas and charcuterie and featuring a tortilla.

The bar is run by restaurant and bar builder Jasper Delamothe, who originally planned to debut in Oranj in 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Having quickly pivoted to delivery, like so many best places in town to drink winehe now brings what he calls ‘a pub for wine drinkers’ to Shoreditch.

The label is perhaps a nod to the po-visage that evaporates around natural wine, whose maturation in town has been accelerated by wines like Veraison, in Camberwell; At Hector’s, in De Beauvoir; and Cadet, on Newington Green.

Oranj will soft launch from November 3-15, officially opening on November 17.
