HONOLULU (KHON2) – Have you discovered the popular new restaurant in Ala Moana called Mana Sandwiches?
They held their grand opening on Saturday June 18th and it was a huge success. Owner Miho Choi Fernandez said she owns five bakeries on Oahu, but this is her first sandwich shop.
“A lot of customers come to try our Japanese-style sandwiches,” Fernandez said. “Since the production process takes a long time, we are unable to produce enough items to meet demand at any given time.”
She said most of their items sell out before 3pm, so if you want to check them out, her advice is to come early.
They sell a range of different Japanese style sandwiches. Some of their most popular items are their fruit sandwiches, egg sandwiches that come with their special strawberry milk.
“Bringing good Japanese food to Hawaii has been my passion, just like I have with BRUG Bakery,” Fernandez said. “Mana Sandwiches has always been a dream for me. Using BRUG bread for delicious sweet and savory Japanese-style sandwiches.
She said they sometimes sell sandwiches at the BRUG Bakery, and they were always full, so she thought it would do well as a restaurant on its own.
“But we have five BRUG Bakery locations,” Fernandez said. “My husband and I are raising two little boys, and we weren’t sure if we wanted to start all over again, with a new business.”
However, that risk has paid off so far, as people line up at Ala Moana to get their hands on these delicious sandwiches.
They opened the sandwich right next to one of their BRUG locations on the second floor of the Ala Moana center next to Macy’s in the Lanai.
“In this case, this space, right next to our busiest BRUG site, was available,” Fernandez said. “So everything seemed like it was meant to be.”
