Frank Pepe voted CT’s most iconic restaurant in Hearst

After intense voting weeksHearst Connecticut readers chose the winner for the iconic restaurant stand.

the a pizza restaurant survived four rounds of voting, during which it rebuffed modern pizza, Rein’s NY Deli, Mystical Pizza and the above Sally’s Pizza.

For those unfamiliar with “Connecticut’s most iconic restaurant,” Frank Pepe’s is a New Haven Pizza Place which has been serving New Haven-style pizza since 1925. The Wooster Street location has become a famous landmark in Nutmeg State, with its iconic charcoal-grilled pizza attracting millions of people every year.

The pizzeria has expanded in recent years to have locations in four different states, with 12 locations currently operating in the Northeast.

Over the past year, the New Haven pizzeria has been making headlines between expansion plans in Stamford, Virginia and Florida; win a place among best pizzerias in the country and even touting a surprise connection to the Winter Olympics.
