Food plays a big part in Louisiana vacation traditions, including New Years Eve.
Derived from the French word for âawakeningâ, RÃ©veillon is a community meal served after midnight mass on Christmas Eve. Families would come back from the late night service and feast on the food on the table or buffet.
For the third year, Eliza Restaurant & Bar, 7970 Jefferson Highway, is looking at New Years Eve in a different way. Instead of waiting for Christmas Eve, the restaurant offers its three-course New Year’s Eve menu throughout the month of December.
This year’s menu, available until December 30, includes specialties such as Gulf oysters and caviar, seared duck breast and praline cheesecake.
The $ 48 meal includes three courses, and individual dishes can be ordered a la carte.

Wine dinner at Sullivan’s
Make reservations now for the Caymus Holiday Pairing Dinner from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. on December 28 at Sullivan’s Steakhouse, 5252 Corporate Blvd.
The meal will consist of four off-menu courses, each created by the restaurant’s executive chef, and paired with four Caymus wines, from succulent reds to crisp whites.

Tickets go on sale for two Grinchmas lunches at 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. on December 22 at Velvet Cactus, 7655 Old Hammond Highway.
Reservations require a $ 40 ticket – one for four people – which will be used for your meal.

Breakfast service for the hospital
Southern Pearl Oyster House, 9460 Perkins Road, hosts Breakfast with Santa from 8 a.m. to 10 a.m. on December 18, with all proceeds going to Our Lady of the Lake Children’s Hospital.
Bring your phone to take a photo with Santa Claus. Breakfast will include pancakes, sausages, eggs and fruit, as well as milk and juice. Tickets cost $ 10 and can be purchased on the day of restaurant breakfast.
