Walsh Whiskey was founded in 1999 by husband and wife team Bernard and Rosemary Walsh, and is brand-centric Irishand Tears of writers, Which are sold in more than 50 countries.
Amber Beverage Group says the acquisition is a “strategically important” decision for the company, allowing it to enter the rapidly growing Irish whiskey industry which has seen sales growth of 140% (2010-2020), exceeding all other categories of spirits. In addition, sales of Irish whiskey are expected to increase by 33% between 2020 and 2024, according to figures from the IWSR.
With an existing reach in 185 countries, Amber Beverage Company will expand the distribution of Walsh brands. It highlights the complementary strengths of the two companies: Walsh Whiskey’s expertise in Irish whiskey manufacturing, combined with strong distribution partners, and the marketing and distribution strength of Amber Beverage Group around the world.
Walsh Whiskey co-founder Bernard Walsh will continue as Managing Director and oversee all aspects of the business, including whiskey development and production. “We are delighted to embark on a new phase of growth within Amber Beverage Group”, he said.

Based in Carlow, near Dublin, Walsh Whiskey is a producer of premium and super premium Irish whiskeys, triple distillation, handcrafted – Tears of writersandIrish. To date, the company has produced 23 expressions, including historic recipes and a range of rare finishes including Mizunara, Florio Marsala, Rum, Cognac, Coffee Stout, Seaweed IPA, Icewine and of course Oloroso and PX Sherries.
Irishhas 5 basic expressions (The Irishman – Founder’s Reserve; Single Malt; 12 Year Old Single Malt; 17 Year Old Single Malt and Vintage Cask). These triple distilled whiskeys are centered on single malt expressions and four special finishes in limited edition casks.
Tears of writersincludes a range of eight expressions of super-premium triple-distilled Irish whiskeys. The range is pot-still focused and includes four cores (Copper Pot, Double Oak, Single Pot Still and Red Head) as well as four limited edition expressions.
