A walk-in restaurant in Allentown is closed until further notice following the death of its owner.
Bacon Bagels and 4th Street Tacos, which serve bagels, Mexican favorites and more at 239 N. Fourth St., made the announcement last week on the company Facebook page.
“It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of our owner Leo Martin,” the post read. “We thank you so much for your endless support during this difficult time of grief and pain. The family truly appreciates all of your kind words.
Martin, 40, suffered an unexpected tragic death at his workplace on the evening of April 27, according to his obituary.
He had become full owner of Bacon Bagels and 4th Street Tacos about a year ago after being part owner for about six months.
He served in the Navy and earned his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of East Stroudsburg before going into business.
“He dedicated time to his business and had high hopes of seeing it prosper,” the obituary read.
A family man, Martin “prioritized his family above all else in his life,” the obituary continues.
“In his spare time, he cooked dinner for his wife and children,” the obituary reads. “He made them laugh, danced with them and made sure they didn’t miss anything. He enjoyed golfing and fishing, especially with his daughter. He enjoyed his sports, especially attending Phillies, Sixers and Jets games. Whenever someone was down, he leaned back to pick them up. His contagious smile will be greatly missed by those around him, especially his family and friends.
Bacon Bagels, which opened in February 2019 at 2241 MacArthur Road in Whitehall Township, completed its December 2021 move to 239 N. Fourth St. in downtown Allentown, less than a block away. houses of Central Catholic Secondary School and St. Luke’s Hospital – Sacred Heart Campus.
The new location, dubbed Bacon Bagels and 4th Street Tacos, offers a separate menu of signature tacos and nachos alongside its bagel sandwiches and other popular selections from its old location.
The walk-in restaurant offers take-out and dine-in only, operating in a renovated space that previously housed other restaurants, including its newest former tenant, Southern Kitchen Soul Food Restaurant.
Martin’s viewing will take place from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Thursday, May 5 at St. George Antiochian Orthodox Church, 1011 Catasauqua Ave., Allentown. The funeral service will begin at 1 p.m. and the family asks those present to wear a mask while expressing their condolences.
