STAMFORD, CT — Jerkyz, a Caribbean fusion-style restaurant and rum bar located at 227 Summer St. in Stamford, will be offering local residents free prepackaged meals, no questions asked, this Thanksgiving.

Last year, restaurant owner Joab Taylor and his team distributed about 300 meals. This year, they plan to increase that number to 750 with new partnerships and increased outreach.

“We started this community giving in 2020 in response to the pandemic. The idea was to support people in need or alone, if they didn’t have the means or time to cook on Thanksgiving, we wanted to help,” Taylor recently said in a press release.

“It was a heartwarming experience, so we did it again last year with the help of Isis-Rae Goulbourne from City Events Group (@Stamford_Events). The added exposure of her media platform allowed us to “Easier to reach the community every year, we want to extend that reach by making deliveries to local nonprofits,” Taylor added.

A three-course meal with a choice of chicken, fish and vegetarian options as well as sides and desserts will be available from 1 p.m. and will last until all freshly prepared meals are picked up on November 24.

Additionally, Pacific House and New Covenant Center in Stamford will receive deliveries with meals for their customers through a new partnership with Food Rescue US.

“This is one of my favorite types of events,” Goulbourne said in a press release. “Stamford is such a vibrant city and we have so much to offer, I really love sharing with the community and making a big impact with partnerships like this.”

Volunteer opportunities are available. Anyone interested should email the City Events team at [email protected]

In addition to the Thanksgiving campaign, Jerkyz regularly hosts art and music related events for the community.

Every Wednesday is Open Mic night from 7-11 p.m. It is a special evening that allows all artistic expressions, singing, comedy, storytelling, poetry and improvisation, and all are welcome on stage.

On Thursdays, the restaurant organizes “Karaoke & Game Night” from 7 p.m. to midnight. On Friday and Saturday there is a live DJ from 8:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m., and “Sunday Reset” is an evening with a live band or a live DJ from 8:00 p.m. to 12:00 a.m.

Jerkyz will be closed to customers on Thanksgiving Day and open only from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m., or while meals last.

Regular street parking is available at no charge due to holidays. Jerkyz moved to Stamford in 2020 after a successful seven-year run in New York. The company now has plans to open a second location and has franchise opportunities available.
