11 Montreal restaurants will offer 3-course meals for less than $40 during the Happening Gourmand

Upon entering I was greeted by the AVO curator himself, Chef Salvatore Armonia. The atmosphere was vibrant and lively, which is the perfect vibe for a Sunday brunch.

After sitting down, Chef Salvatore went over his delicious menu with me, highlighting some of their best toast, wraps, grilled cheese and their two desserts.

I decided to go with “Le Best”, which had smoked salmon, cream cheese, avocado, yuzu mayonnaise and a poached egg. Of course, I wasn’t going to settle for just one article.

Then comes the “Des l’egumes et de l’amour”, made with beet hummus, eggplant, avocado and feta. A vegetarian must-have! Finally, I needed to get my cheese fix. So, Chef Salvatore recommended the “Cheesy Chic”, and who was I to say no to such a delicious dish?

After sipping my pellegrino peach, the food was delivered and I immediately went to avocado heaven. The presentation alone was well worth the visit, but how did it taste?

I immediately opted for vegetarian first, which gave me an instant burst of flavor in my mouth – or, as I should say, total food ‘gasm’.

The fusion of beet hummus, eggplant and perfectly ripe avocado was just too good to be true. The best part? The generous amount of feta on the toast, really bringing the whole dish together.

When executing an avocado toast, you always have to consider the toast to avo ratio, and the “Vegetables and Love” knocked this one out of the park, just like ” The Best”.

A brunch classic must always contain smoked salmon, so it’s safe to say that I was more than happy to dive into this work of culinary art.

Costs. That’s the best way to describe this mouth-watering avocado toast. The ingredients blended perfectly, so I took a second bite without hesitation.

Smoked salmon, avocado, and cream cheese are a trio to be reckoned with, and my stomach would definitely agree.

As for the “Cheesy Chic”, composed of provolone, brie, ricotta, avocado, truffle cream and a honey curry hummus (mouth watering?), it did not disappoint.

While a classic grilled cheese always hits the mark, this decadent dish has taken things to a whole new level.

The provolone and brie were perfectly melted, but what really made this sandwich one to remember was the truffle cream and honey curry hummus. The fusion of flavors combined with the flawless crispness of the bread still makes me dream.

The meal (unfortunately) ended, but I had the opportunity to chat with Chef Salvatore about his menu, and it’s obvious he’s quite the avocado mastermind.

Salvatore was really able to tap into flavors and ingredients that would work well together and he did it brilliantly. He knows exactly what people would like, how to make it work and turn something as simple as an avocado toast into a true work of art.

If I have a takeaway from AVO…it’s because this place is more than just a place for avocado toast, it’s a space to explore Chef Salvatore’s culinary novelties that will satisfy each of your taste buds.

AVO is expected to stay in the city for 3 months before eventually becoming a permanent location in the city. So if you’re looking for a restaurant to meet all your avo needs, you’ve found it.
